"Nothing Gold Can Stay"

"Natures first green is gold
her hardest hue to hold
her early leafs a flower
but only so an hour
then leaf subsides to leaf
so eden sank to grief
so dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay"

From my point of view...
This poem is so wonderful, no words can describe. I love to go to the beach and see the sunrise and the sunset...and it just gives u an over-whelming feeling and it makes u feel as if nothing can go wrong. I read the Outsiders, and from my perspective, i concur that that book gives a great example of how things can never stay gold. To see and experience things for the first time makes you think of it forever, like a unforgetful memory and when we're a child everything comes new for us, but they fade away as we grow. The poem is also explaining that during our child-hood, we should cherish those moments forever and once we grow up everything fades away...we only have a few years to enjoy our child hood and i believe that each and every child should understand and take that time of being a child and to experience everything, because once we grow everything that was new to us is gone and we only have one chance to capture that moment and keep it in our memories forever...

In this poem Frost is saying that nothing that is good or beautiful in the world last forever because it is eventually spoiled or grows old and mundane. In line two alliteration is used with the “h” sound to give a feeling of happiness, which often a feeling that occurs when a person receives something new and beautiful. An example of this would be the happiness that occurs when a child receives a new toy. Personification is used in the poem to compare nature to a woman. This is significant because nature, just like a woman, is beautiful when it is young, fresh, and vibrant and becomes less beautiful as it ages and becomes old.

this poem confused me at first. As an english assignment, i needed to discuss the poem and how it relates in the book "the outsiders." our teacher told us that "gold" and "green" refer to spring, which is so full of life but will not stay that way forever. Also, the gold (literally) in the sunset/sunrise will be there, but only for a short while. Beautiful things in life (gold/green) will, at some point, fade away and leave you with just a memory. Another point of view is made by "rachel" above that is very true, too.

I think that what this poem means is that when you're having an exellent time of your life but that exellence won't stay for long, it'll go away sooner than you would expect it to.I think that that is the exact meaning of the poem only that on it, it uses nature to describe the situatioon that i've just explained.

The poem by Robert Frost ''nothing gold can stay'' is a very important part in the noval The Outsiders. It means that nothing good (gold) can stay forever. In the book The Outsiders the colour iron is like the city, when they talk about the city in this book nothing good comes out. Iron is not a very good colour, but on the other side Gold is pure colour. When they are in church (Johnny and Ponyboy) they are pure, and their additude changes. When the go in the city were the church is no more sterotypes are encountered. When Ponyboy sees the farmer and asks him when the church is the farmer doesn't judge him. Even if he has a big shirt (from Dally)and greasy hair. The rual area is the total opposite of the city.

i think this poem is referring to life and death, when my grandfather passed away a neigbor of mine sent me this poem. meaning to say that even though he was an amazing person (gold) it was his time to go. thats just the way i see it.

I have always believed that this poem was truly talking about nature as a parallel to our lives. Yet an author's motive is hard to find in a piece, so to find true understanding. one must get baked and find his own deep philosophical meaning.

iv been reading the Outsiders in school and this poem really relates to Pomy losing his "gold" friend Johnny and Dally. But some things that are gold can stay like love and carring. it is a nice poem and really relates to are lives in this world.

I love this poem, i read it for the first time today....i read it in the book The Outsiders (thats where most of you people read it from first). i think its really an amazing poem, it relates to so many things, not just nature but life in general. Its is just an beautifuk poem, i'd have to say its my favourite now....its so true too, nothing gold (specialor precious) can stay, its always going to go away, leave; how ever u want to look at it. I cant discribe how it makes me feel exactly, its like i can actually relate to it on some level....."Nothing Gold Can Stay" is my favourite line of the whole poem i think its so, well...amazing. i never knew that words of so little could impact me like this poem has...it makes we want to be a better person.
