Perhaps Berryman's suicide proved that he was "Lazarus with a plan." If so, it's important to remember that not all posthumous reputations are insured by self-murder. Incidentally, right before Berryman killed himself I had a dream in which I saw him write something on a piece of paper and toss it INTO a public ashtray in a stairwell. Question: does anyone who was present that day remember seeing Berryman write or discard what, in reprospect, might have been a (suicide?) note before he jumped off the bridge?
